Publishing Choices: The first draft of your manuscript is ready and you’re wondering why this is the first obstacle. The answer is simple. Before sending the manuscript out for evaluation, you must decide if you’re going to be totally in control of your self-publishing business or let a third party handle the business affairs and take part of your royalties (15% to 20% with some services). Publishing services argue that you have enough work writing your book, so why add the burden of running your own business? With many years of experience setting up sole proprietorships and corporations, we can simplify this seemingly difficult task. As owner, you’ll receive all payments directly into your bank account and keep 100% of your royalties, and owning your own publishing business allows many tax deductions not available to an individual author. Book Production: This site wouldn’t exist if we didn’t think you needed help producing your book! Editing, formatting, typesetting, cover and interior design are all part of book production. We’ll make it as easy and cost effective as possible to accomplish your goals. eBooks: Once the final edit of your manuscript is completed in Word (or other page layout programs such as InDesign), it must be converted into an ePub format. Our conversion service is unique in that we allow our authors to make their own corrections in Word for insertion into the ePub file. Our low insertion and ePub validation costs are far less than the hundreds of dollars many conversion services charge for correcting authors’ errors and inserting revisions directly into the ePub file. POD: Print On Demand is rapidly becoming the future of publishing. We recommend Amazon’s CreateSpace as the best service available. They produce quality softcover printing with fair prices and fast service. There are no upfront costs for uploading a finished PDF file, and you pay the same unit price for one book or a hundred. When an order is placed—from you, Amazon or expanded distribution—the book is immediately printed and shipped. Distribution: The internet has broken traditional publishers’ hold over distribution. From your own site, you can advertise and sell your books. CreateSpace will automatically place your book in their online bookstore and Amazon. If you choose expanded distribution, they’ll make your book available to libraries, distributors, bookstores and retailers. Site Design by Clindale Ltd, Copyright © 2012 Clindale, Ltd. |
